SYACUSE -- Syracuse University Athletics announced Thursday that George McDonald will join the SU football coaching staff as offensive coordinator under head coach Scott Shafer.

"Our offense will be physical, fundamentally sound, and aggressive. We will strive to be balanced by getting the ball to the best playmakers, make the defense defend the whole field and play with a great tempo," McDonald is quoted as saying on SUAthletics.com

McDonald was most recently the receivers coach at the University of Arkansas, prior to which he was the wide receivers coach at the University of Miami. He was also a wide receivers coach for the Cleveland Browns, according to SU Athletics.

SU Athletics says McDonald is a top football recruiter who was named "as one of the top 25 recruiters in the country by Rivals.com in 2012."

Shafer and McDonald have a history of coaching together. They coached together "as the coordinators at Western Michigan in 2005 and 2006," according to SU Athletics.
