SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse woman allegedly violated an order of protection when she stabbed her boyfriend in the chest Tuesday morning, causing him to undergo emergency heart surgery.

Syracuse Police say they arrested 39-year-old Crystal Ash for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend, 52-year-old Gregory Moore, in the chest during an altercation at 127 South Avenue around 6:10 a.m. Tuesday.

The stabbing caused a laceration to Moore’s heart and he underwent emergency surgery to repair the damage at Upstate University Hospital,

Moore was taken to the hospital in critical condition but is now expected to survive.

Police say Ash was at the scene when they arrived at 127 South Avenue and she was subsequently arrested. Ash violated a court order of protection which stated that she cannot harass, annoy or assault Moore.

Ash was charged with first degree assault, first degree aggravated criminal contempt, and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Ash is being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment in Syracuse City Court.
