SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police have identified the person gunned down overnight on Syracuse's south side.

19-year-old Jamal Holmes was pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting around 1:30 a.m. Monday along the 400 block of Landon Avenue.

The other victim, a 17-year-old, was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. He is not being identified due to safety concerns.

Sgt. Tom Connellan says they need the public's help as they continue to investigate. Police do not have a motive for the murder. They say neither Holmes nor the 17-year-old have any major criminal history. Police do not know what they were doing on the street overnight.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the Syracuse Police at (315) 442-5222.

A woman who asked not to be identified and lives near the murder scene told CNY Central's Jim Kenyon that she heard the victim scream for help.  "He was yelling...Oh Lord please help me,  somebody help me.  I heard the shot and didn't hear him any more.  I looked out my window.  He was laying on the ground."
