SARANAC LAKE (AP) -- Police in an Adirondack village have charged an 83-year-old local woman with stealing about $40,000 from the bank account of an 87-year-old friend.

Village of Saranac Lake police tell the Adirondack Daily Enterprise that Charlotte Gladd of Saranac Lake stole the money from a woman over a three-year period. She was charged with grand larceny and issued a criminal summons to appear in village court next month.

Gladd has denied the charges, telling the newspaper that she didn't have access to the woman's bank account.

Last month, a 59-year-old Saranac Lake woman was charged with stealing a combined $327,000 in cash and savings bonds from a family member over whom she had power of attorney.
