BURLINGTON, NJ -- If one game is any indication, future Syracuse Orange guard Tyler Ennis is not the kind of player you want to tick off.
After learning that he had been left off of the 2013 McDonald’s All-American Game roster, SU basketball recruit Tyler Ennis went out and scored 52 points Thursday night as his #5 ranked St. Benedict’s (New Jersey) Prep team routed Eastern 116-65.
“We were pissed, our team was pissed,” St. Benedict’s coach Mark Taylor told SNY.tv. “Tyler was upset.”
There are conflicting reports of exactly how many points Ennis scored, but Ennis himself tweeted that it was in fact 52.
Ennis, a 6’2” senior point guard, is originally from Toronto and signed with the Orange last August. He is averaging 21 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds in 20 games this season. He will join a growing list of Orange men with ties to Canada, including recent grads Kris Joseph and Andy Rautins, and Andy’s father Leo Rautins.
None of Syracuse’s five incoming recruits from the class of 2013 made the McDonald’s roster. Ennis, however, was selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic - a comparable, if less heralded all-star game - earlier this week.
