SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse women's lacrosse team lost their first home opener in eight years to Maryland on Sunday afternoon, losing to the Terrapins 19-11. The loss drops SU to 1-1 on the season, and improves Maryland to 1-1.

It was the tale of two halves for the Orange, as neither team led by more than two goals for the first 30 minutes. The Terrapins had a constant answer for the Orange, and led 8-6 at halftime.

The Terrapins came out of the locker room firing, opening up a quick 11-6 lead less than five minutes into the second half. Katie Schwarzmann scored four of her seven goals in the final 30 minutes.

In the losing effort, Syracuse's Michelle Tumolo scored four goals and tallied two assists, with teammate Alyssa Murray with three goals and one assist.

The Orange will try to bounce back in the Carrier Dome next Sunday against top-ten team Virginia for a 1 p.m. faceoff.
