SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Men's Lacrosse team made their 2013 season debut Sunday afternoon, but visiting Albany never trailed in a thrilling double-overtime win over the Orange, 16-15.

Albany's Thompson trio, featuring brothers Lyle and Miles (who played lacrosse locally at Lafayette High School), and their cousin Ty proved they would be problem from the start, with Lyle and Miles connecting on the first goal of the game, giving the Great Danes the early advantage.

The Orange trailed 8-5 at halftime, but used a 4-1 run to start the second half, which tied the game at nine. Albany responded with a 5-1 run of their own, and took a 14-9 lead.

But, the Orange found offense from an unlikely and relatively unknown source. With the help of Jojo Marasco, who tallied a career-high five assists on the day, Dylan Donahue scored three goals in the fourth quarter to lift the Orange to a tie late in the game.

Syracuse had the last possession, but Albany's Blaze Riorden stopped Luke Cometti's shot as time expired, sending the game into sudden-death overtime.

After a scoreless five minutes, the teams went into double overtime. With about three minutes left, just like the very first goal of the game, Lyle Thompson hit Miles Thompson in front, who notched the game-winning goal. The Thompsons combined for 10 goals and eight assists.

The Orange returns to the Dome next Sunday for a 4 p.m. start against Army.
