SYRACUSE -- In front of a record 35,012 fans at the Carrie Dome, Georgetown's Otto Porter scored 33 points in the Hoyas 57-46 victory over the Syracuse Orange.
The Hoyas started the game 0-8 from behind the three point line, but went 7 for 17 the rest of the way, with Otto Porter chipping in with 5 threes of his own. With his 33 points, Porter outscored the rest of his team by 9 points.
"Every loss hurts," Michael Carter Williams, who scored 7 points in the loss, says. "But they beat us on our home floor, and that's the first time we've lost at home in a long time, so yeah, it definitely hurts."
The Orange took a 23-21 lead into halftime, but Georgetown started the second half with five quick points, forcing an SU timeout. James Southerland came on strong in the second half, but Porter's dominance overshadowed Southerland's13 points on the day. SU's CJ Fair also tied for the team lead with 13.
"In this type of environment you want to come out with a win," Fair, who also had 7 rebound on the day, says. "...and we didn't so it is kind of disappointing."
The Hoya win in the Carrier Dome also snaps the Orange's 57-game home winning streak, with the 46 points the fewest points scored by Syracuse in the Carrier Dome.
