Farm in the Town of Onondaga where 7 horses were found dead

ONONDAGA -- The Central New York SPCA has taken 14 neglected horses from property owned by the Onondaga Nation where seven other horses were found dead.
Volunteers from the SPCA went to the 156-acre farm in the town of Onondaga after getting reports of mistreatment earlier this month.
Paul Morgan, the SPCA's executive director, says the surviving animals were emaciated, in poor condition and appeared to be wild.
Morgan says he knows of the individual who owns the horses but, due to the investigation, is not releasing the name at this time.
Morgan says the investigation revealed there were originally 24 horses on the property, 14 were rescued and 7 were found dead, which means there may still be three unaccounted for.
The property has been owned by the Onondagas since 1999, but isn't on their reservation.
The Onondaga Nation is cooperating with the investigation and has offered to pay any expenses that would be incurred, says Morgan.
Morgan says a group of Clan Mothers issued a statement saying they weren't aware of the mistreated horses.
Morgan says that one of the horses was near death on Monday but is now standing and beginning to recover.
