The Syracuse Orange mens lacrosse team did what many so called experts didn't think they could.

The Orange used stifling defense and some streaky scoring to knock off rival Virginia 9-8 in overtime at the Carrier Dome on Friday.

Sure, the Orange has beaten the Cavaliers before and on grander stages but the way SU won on Friday will forever be remembered.

Syracuse answered every shot Virginia sent their way, and when the game finally went to overtime, a Central New York native led the Orange to victory.

Skaneateles native Kevin Rice scored the game winning goal in overtime just moments after he made a less-hyped big play when he held onto a ground ball after being floored on a check.

Rice wound up a few feet away from the cage and scored the goal that could propel the Orange's season for the rest of 2013.

JoJo Marasco also scored twice for the Orange, which is now 2-1 on the season.
