Three arrested in Oneida heroin bust

ONEIDA -- Oneida City Police say they arrested three people around 6:45 p.m. Thursday in connection with a drug investigation.

Police arrested 22-year-old Jade C. Parker and 30-year-old Patrick K. Wales 30, both of Rome, for allegedly possessing heroin. Parker and Wales are charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Police also arrested 37-year-old James C. Pethel, of Booneville, for allegedly possessing heroin with intent to sell. Police say Pethel struck a police vehicle on East Avenue and drove his vehicle toward a police officer as the officer was ordering him to stop.

Police say the officer had to leap out of the way to avoid being struck. Pethel then allegedly struck a parked vehicle and fled before being stopped a short distance away.

Pethel is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a property damage motor vehicle accident.

Pethel was arraigned and committed to Madison County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.
