HERKIMER -- State Police have confirmed an autopsy of the man suspected of killing four in a rampage in Herkimer and Mohawk last week shows he died of gunshot wounds.

64-year-old Kurt Myers’ death certificate indicates that he died from multiple gun shots that caused internal bleeding, according to police.

Police have not said how many times Myers was shot.

Police entered an abandoned building in Herkimer where Myers had been holed up a after a rampage that left four dead and two injured last Wednesday.

Myers had been in a standoff with police for about 18 hours before police entered the building on North Main Street. When police entered, they say Myers shot and killed an FBI K-9. Police returned fire, fatally shotting Myers.

Police have not yet released autopsy reports on the four victims, and two others are continuing to recover.

Police say Myers had heavy credit card debt and had not been employed since 2006. Police say they still don't know why Myers opened fire at a barber shop and car wash last week.
