SYRACUSE -- A 16-year-old is charged with felony robbery after allegedly robbing a woman on Marshall Street near Syracuse University.

Syracuse Police say they responded to the 400 block of Marshall Street for a reported robbery around 10:20 p.m. Thursday night.

Police say officers arrived at the scene and located a 21-year-old female victim. She told police that she was robbed just minutes earlier as she was walking to her vehicle which was parked nearby on Marshall Street.

The woman told officers that she was approached by two men. One reportedly shoved her to the ground and forcefully stole her purse.

The woman provided officers with a description of the men and their direction of travel.

Police say they immediately began checking the area with the assistance from the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety.

Police say that just minutes later, a S.U. Public Safety Officer stopped a person in Thornden Park who matched the description of one of the suspects.

The suspect who was stopped was identified as a 16-year-old from Syracuse. We are not releasing the suspect's name due to his age.

He was charged with felony robbery and lodged in the Justice Center. He is scheduled to be arraigned Syracuse City Criminal Court on Friday.

Police say some items taken in the robbery were later recovered in Thornden Park. The victim did not seek medical attention.
