SYRACUSE -- Army's Sam Somers tallied 18 saves, but SU's 44 shots were too much, giving the Orange a hard fought 6-2 victory.

On the other side, after giving up 16 goals last week against Albany, SU goaltender Bobby Wardwell recorded 11 saves of his own, only giving up 2 goals in the first half, which ended up being the only goals he allowed the entire game. The win prevented the Orange from falling to 0-2 for the first time since 1974.

7 of the 8 goals scored occurred in the first half. The Orange jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Jojo Marasco hit Luke Cometti in front of the goal. Army's first goal of the game came from Tyler Kamide, a Liverpool High School Graduate, who threw one behind his back to tally Army's first score.

Somers and Wardwell would dominate for much of the rest of the game, with the Orange's pure volume of shots overwhelming Somers enough to score 6 times.

The Orange stay at home for a game on Friday against Virginia, a traditionally dominant program. Faceoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
