SU Orange guard will go to the NBA
SYRACUSE -- The college basketball career of Syracuse University point guard Jonny Flynn is over. Flynn has signed with agent Leon Rose and will enter the NBA draft. Once a player signs with an agent they are no longer able to rescind their decision to enter the draft. Rose's Creative Artists Agency Sports also represents NBA superstar Lebron James. James has talked with Flynn about signing with Rose in the weeks leading up to the decision.
Coach Jim Boeheim has yet to comment on Flynn's signing with the agent. When reached tonight Athletic Director Daryl Gross would not comment until he was able to hear from Coach Boeheim. Next year's Orange squad was getting preseason rankings in the top 5 in the nation under the premise that Jonny Flynn, Eric Devendorf and Paul Harris would all return. Now it appears none of the three will be back, although Devendorf and Harris have yet to announce they have signed with agents.
DraftExpress.com conducts one of several mock NBA drafts. In that mock draft Jonny Flynn is projected as a number 15 pick going to the Detroit Pistons. Flynn led the Orange in both scoring and assists this season in leading the team back to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen after a two year absence from the tournament. His brilliant smile and personality complemented his shooting, passing and ball handling to make him one of the fan favorites since his arrival on campus in the fall of 2007.
