SYRACUSE -- What would bring a quarterback recruit to visit Syracuse University, let alone practically verbally commit on the spot? According to Mullen High School's Jonny Miller, it's the impression he got from the coaches, and the rich history portrayed in the recent motion picture "The Express". After visiting the SU campus over the weekend, Miller committed to Syracuse after getting a good vibe about the coaching staff, and talking to the players.
"You know the first thing I was looking for is the coaching staff," says Miller, "not only how they came off to me, but I was looking to ask players what they thought of Coach Marrone... what they thought of Coach Spence, and they had nothing negative to say about any of the coaches. And then the people in Syracuse, they were fantastic. And I wanted to play in a place where they support you and love you and that's really the feeling I got."
Miller is 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, and led Mullen High School to a Colorado 5A State Championship this past season despite dealing with injuries. He says that none of the injuries are ongoing and that he now feels 100 percent. He chose Syracuse over a number of other schools including Wisconsin, Illinois, San Diego State and New Mexico State according to CuseConfidential.com, but says he is very satisfied with his final decision.
"Obviously everybody has seen "The Express" with Ernie Davis. There's been so many great players at Syracuse and they've achieved BCS title games and they can win, I know they can win and they just need the right coaching staff and the right players to do it. I want to be part of something special and come in there and turn around a program that's kinda been down for a couple years, take us to Bowl games and BCS games, really make an impact on Syracuse.
Miller is the sixth commitment for the Orange in just over two weeks.
