GEDDES -- As the special Mirabito Outdoor Classic with the Syracuse Crunch and Binghamton Senators nears, work is beginning at the New York State Fairgrounds.
The inside track at the grandstand may not look too much like a hockey rink now, the only resemblence being a square pit with gravel in it, which will eventually house the ice. But for hockey fans in Central New York, the fact that an outdoor hockey game, the first of its kind in the American Hockey League, is here in Syracuse in about six weeks is an exciting proposition.
The fact that the game is being played is a dream come true to many in the Crunch organization, who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this happen. As you'll see in the video, step one of the process is done, and surely more updates are to come as the date draws closer.
