There was plenty of high school hoops action across Central New York on Friday including a rivalry game that's marked on the calendars of both schools every year. The past two years Jamesville-DeWitt has won state championships, and both years they've lost to one team in Section III, the Christian Brothers Academy Brothers.
Both teams entered the contest undefeated in league play and we wouldn't have a good idea who would remain undefeated until the very end. CBA trailed J-D by just one point, and while the Red Rams would extend that lead to nine at points in the second half, CBA kept it close and to a one possession game with less than 30 seconds to go. The Red Rams would prevail in the end, 46-41 was the final. The teams combined to only make one three point basket, but the difference was J-D outscoring CBA in the paint 28-16.
Lamar Kearse led the Red Rams with 15 points, DaJuan Coleman provided 18 rebounds. CBA's Jameel Balenton led all scorers with 18 points.
There were plenty of other great games in CNY as well, including the West Genesee girls gutting out a close 57-55 victory over Henninger. The Black Knights' boys team would earn the revenge though, topping the Wildcats 57-45.
Both Corcorans boys and girls teams beat Auburn.
Another game of top teams included Westhill traveling to Marcellus. It was a battle to the finish, but Dan Ross's 21 points were just enough to lift the Warriors over the Mustangs 47-43. Will Fiacchi scored 17 for Marcellus.
