GENEVA -- Hobart College first-year guard Stefan Thompson of Syracuse was named the Liberty League Men’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week by the conference office. It’s the eighth time in 13 weeks he has earned the award.
On Tuesday, the Christian Brothers Academy graduate posted a double-double on 10 points and a season-high 12 assists, as well as five steals, in an 81-67 win over Hamilton. On Friday, Thompson produced 17 points and four rebounds in an 85-65 win over Clarkson. He closed out the week with another double-double on 22 points and 10 assists, as well as four steals in a 105-98 loss to St. Lawrence.
For the week, Thompson averaged 16.3 points, 7.7 assists, and 3.0 steals. He shot 55.9 percent from the floor, including 6-of-12 from behind the arc, and 100 percent from the free throw line (5-5).
Thompson is second on the team and fourth in the conference in scoring, contributing 15.5 ppg. He leads the team in field goal percentage (.559, 3rd in LL), free throw percentage (.852, 3rd), and assists (3.17 apg, 5th). Additionally, Thompson is third on the team and 11th in the league in steals (1.35 spg).
With two games remaining in the regular season, the Statesmen are 14-9 overall, 7-5 in the conference. Hobart is fourth in the league standings, one game ahead of Clarkson and one and half in front of Rensselaer. The top four teams make the Liberty League Tournament.
