WASHINGTON, DC -- Five Orange men’s lacrosse players have been named to the 2010 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List released on Friday, March 5 by the Tewaaraton Award Foundation. Senior Cody Jamieson (Six Nations, Ontario) and juniors Josh Amidon (Lafayette, N.Y.), John Galloway (Syracuse, N.Y.), Stephen Keogh (Toronto, Ontario) and Joel White (Cortland N.Y.) are candidates for the award, which is presented to the college lacrosse player of the year.
Syracuse’s five nominees are the most nominees from any one school. In all, 64 players are considered candidates for the award, which will be presented on June 3 at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
Jamieson got off to a fast start in 2010, scoring a career-best four goals in SU’s season-opening win against Denver and he is tied for the team points lead with six. Jamieson was named to the 2010 Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Second Team and the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team after scoring the winning goal in overtime of the 2009 NCAA title game against Cornell.
Amidon was named to the 2010 Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Third Team and was also an All-BIG EAST preseason honoree. The team’s most experienced offensive midfielder, Amidon had goals in each of SU’s first two games.
The only starting goalie in NCAA history to win national championships as a freshman and a sophomore, Galloway ranks third nationally in save percentage (.667) and ninth in goals-against average (6.69). Galloway was named a 2010 third-team preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse and he is the program’s career leader in goals-against average (7.66).
Keogh recorded a hat trick in SU’s latest win against Army and he is tied for the team lead with five goals on the season. Keogh is tied for first in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.5) and he owns the sixth-longest point-scoring streak in the nation (24 games). He was named to the 2010 Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Third Team and named the BIG EAST Preseason Attack Player of the Year.
White, a 2010 team co-captain, earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll recognition (Feb. 21) and Inside Lacrosse Team of the Week honors after collecting six ground balls and forcing three turnovers in SU’s season-opening win versus Denver. He was named to the 2010 Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America First Team and the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team as the squad’s longstick midfielder.
The Tewaaraton Trophy has been presented each year since 2001. Syracuse attackman Mike Leveille won the award in 2008. He was the second Orange player to do so, joining 2002 and 2004 Tewaaraton Trophy winner Mike Powell.
The Orange looks to improve to 3-0 on the young season when it plays at No. 2 Virginia on Sunday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
