UTICA -- West Genesee High School's hockey team completed a perfect season with a Division I state championship victory Sunday in Utica.
Fresh off a two goal comeback in the final 30 seconds the day before, West Genny had an easier time Sunday, taking the lead early in the first period and never looking back en route to a 3-0 victory.
The win gave the Wildcats a 25-0 record, the first perfect season in school history.
Anthony Militello stopped all 11 shots he faced to record the shutout.
If things couldn't get any sweeter for the Wildcats, West Genny senior Ryan Michel was named player of the year while Erich Haney earned tournament MVP honors.
In other high school hockey news, New Hartford took home the Division II state championship Sunday with a 5-2 win over Queensbury.
The Spartans were led by Jason Fitzgerald who scored one goal and added three assists.
The win gives New Hartford its second consecutive state championship.
