Nichols tops Jamesville-DeWitt in Federation tournament

GLENS FALLS (AP) -- Tournament MVP William Regan scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Nichols School topped Jamesville-DeWitt 65-43 in the Class A final Saturday at the New York State Boys Basketball Federation Tournament of Champions.

Ronald Canestro added 23 points for the Vikings (24-7), including three of his team's eight 3-pointers. Stan Wier scored 17.

Dajuan Coleman scored 12 points and added 11 rebounds for the Red Rams (25-1), who fell in the title game for the second time in three years. Tyler Cavanaugh added 11 points.

Nichols led 31-28 at halftime. Jamesville-DeWitt got within three points with 12.5 seconds left in the third, but the Vikings never lost the lead.

Nichols held Jamesville-DeWitt scoreless in the fourth quarter and scored the game<s final 19 points en route to their first championship since 1995.
