SYRACUSE -- Nearly 7,800 fans saw a thrilling win Thursday in the home opener for the Syracuse Chiefs.

Pete Orr's walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth gave the Chiefs a 8-7 victory over the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.

For Chiefs fans, opening day meant more than just a win. It also meant the unofficial start of spring and had many fans in a summer state of mind.

Some schools had half-days so children could go to the game.

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner threw out the first pitch before the game.
