SU Assistant Coach Mike Hopkins
SU Assistant Coach Mike Hopkins Has long been assumed to be Head Coach Jim Boeheim's successor if and when he decided to retire. Hopkins has had his share of job offers over the years, but ultimately always realized that Syracuse University is the place he wants to be. He was more recently reported as the leading candidate for the Head Coaching position at UNC-Charlotte, but after speaking with Boeheim decided to take his name out of the running for the job.
"Whenever you see what else is out there there's nothing better than this place.", says Hopkins, "The locals and the fans and Coach Boeheim's been a father figure to me, has really given me great opportunities and has been teaching me since, gosh, it's been 20 years now, so I have Orange DNA."
Hopkins, who is a former SU player, has just completed his 15th season on the Orange coaching staff. Syracuse has advanced to postseason play in each and every year he's been on the coaching staff.
