Saturday was fight day in Syracuse at the Westside Champions Stadium.
Area youngsters and other east coast youth boxers competed for a spot on the United States junior olympic team.
On the senior circuit, composed of high school-aged fighters, boxers duked it out in the US Regional Championships.
In both the junior and senior divisions, winners will advance to the final round of competition in Lake Placid next month.
Syracuse boxing trainer Ray Rinaldi has been training fighters for fifty years.
He says Syracuse used to be one of the strongest boxing cities in the country but support for the sport has lagged recently. He says that's starting to change.
"Now it's starting to come back a lot," Rinaldi says. "We got a beautiful place and a beautiful facility and I've got a lot of kids interested in it."
24 boxers competed Saturday in three minute, three round matches.
