Tonight's lacrosse games between ES-M and Liverpool were about more than just winning.

All proceeds from the boys' and girls' doubleheader went to the Kara MacDougall Fund and the Brian Wilbur Fund.

Kara was a student at ES-M. She lost her battle to liver cancer in January.

Brian is a student at Liverpool who was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. He is now cancer free.

For both the MacDougall Family and Brian, it was a special night.

""It's very emotional. Our communities have been very, very nice and have really helped us through a very difficult time," says Mark MacDougall, Kara's father. "This continues to be a very nice thing of them to do."

"I knew I always had my friends who were close to me," Wilbur says. "But to see how the whole community came out and show how they feel about all this is really great."

Brian and Kara each played on their schools' lacrosse teams.

The fundraiser was a joint effort between Liverpool and ES-M high schools.

Some of Kara's best friends play for the ES-M girls' lacrosse team. One of her friends says the team tried to play tonight the way Kara would have.

"Kara, whenever she was playing a sport, she always wanted to win, she always went hard," Allyson Rossi says. "She didn't care who she was playing against, she just gave everything out there, and that's what all of us were doing out there today and I know she would have been really proud of all of us."

As for the games themselves, the Warriors defeated the Spartans in the girls' match-up, 11-9.

Liverpool took an 8-6 lead into the half and matched ES-M goal for goal in the second half for the two goal win.

Nina Tassone paced Liverpool with three goals and one assist.

The Warriors improve to 8-5 while the Spartans drop to 6-5.

The Spatans would get their revenge in the boys' game.

ES-M defeated Liverpool 11-10 at the Dome in the second part of the doubleheader.

Mike Cummings scored five goals to lead the Spartans as they jump over the .500 mark to 6-5.

Liverpool drops to 8-3.
