ENDICOTT, NY -- Just down the road from the Dick's Sporting Goods Open media day at Union-Endicott High School was the New York State boys lacrosse playoffs. In the first game, Jamesville-DeWitt steamrolled Corning West 17-3. It was a game the Red Rams led 10-3 at halftime, and goalie Dan Di Stefano shut out the opponents from the Elmira area in the second half. The Red Rams advance to face the always dangerous Irondequoit squad from Section V, Thursday at Cicero-North Syracuse High School at 3:30.
The second game proved to be a heartbreaker for Central New York, as Skaneateles battled with perennial power Corning East the entire way, only to fall 7-6 at the end. It was still a fantastic season for the Lakers, suffering their first and only loss of the season.
Perhaps the most shocking final result of the night was West Genesee losing to Ithaca 13-5. It's the second straight year Ithaca had knocked out the Wildcats out of the state playoffs. Joe Bucci scored four goals, including a pair in the first half that game Ithaca a 4-1 lead. Riley Lasda added three goals and an assist.
