The Henninger Black Knights got off to a slow start last season, but ended 2009 one point short of making it to the Section III Championship game. They lost to Christian Brothers Academy 21-20 in the sectional semifinal.
Coming into 2010, head coach Dave Kline would be the first to admit it'll take even more hard work to even get a chance at being one of the top teams in Section III. The Black Knights have lost almost their entire offensive unit to graduation, but that doesn't mean this team isn't still on the up and up.
"We're real young, real inexperienced," says Kline, "but the kids are coming with a lot of enthusiasm, they've worked hard all summer, so we're excited about that. Maybe they'll grow up as the year goes on."
The young players agree that as tough as this year might prove to be from a learning standpoint, they are destined for greatness. The Black Knights have lots of raw talent coming in, now all they need is some experience.
"I'm pretty pumped," says tight end/defensive end Chris Hicks, "I think we'll have a good season. We're young, (but) we work hard though. I think we can do it."
