Bryant and Stratton CNY Central Athlete Katie Weisenburger
This week's Bryant and Stratton CNY Central Athlete comes from the Pulaski high school cross country team.
Katie Weisenburger is the top runner in Class C, Section III. She's won all 6 meets she's run in this year, and has been setting records left and right.
Weisenburger set the Pulaski high school course record, in addition to owning four track and field records.
Katie's coach, Mike Bateson, says he's never coached anyone like Katie.
"I've never actually encountered someone like this before," Bateson says. "This is a rarity, to have someone with this kind of ability, that dedicated, that coachable, who's only been doing this for a short period of time."
A short time being two years. Katie was a soccer player before switching to cross country last season in her junior year.
While Katie enjoys winning, she wants to be a good teammate above all else.
"I'm always there for the girls, trying to support them, anything I can. Always talking to them, encouraging them," Weisenburger says.
Katie also excels in the classroom, carrying a high 90's average. She says she's looking into several Big East schools for cross country, and yes, Syracuse is on the list.
Congratulations to this week's Bryant and Stratton CNY Central Athlete, Katie Weisenburger!
