The Corcoran Cougars came into this week's Toyota High School Game of the Week having only given up an average of 6 points to their opponents, and having scored an average of 37 points a game. Those statistics shined through against Henninger, a 27-7 victory, improving the Cougars to 5-and-0 on the season.
Henninger forced 5 turnovers in the first half, and entered the 2nd half tied at 7. But the Cougars changed their plan and their attitude heading into the rest of the game.
"We just got after them and kinda challenged what they were doing out there," explained Coach Schmidt, "it was uninspired play (in the first half) on our part and when we refocused and understood we're in a real game here the kids responded well."
"It's a good thing," said Raquen Morris when reflecting on being 5-and-0, "but we just have to try and not get too "big headed" and just try to keep it going."
Trenell Boggans finished the game with 10 tackles and a sack, but feels that he could have played even better.
"I played hard but I can always play harder, and there's always room for improvement", said Boggans as he started to look ahead to next week, "it's gonna be a tough game (against F-M), we'll just have to play all four quarters of the game and keep them restricted to less touchdowns."
It'll be tough to find a bigger game next week than the Cougars taking on the F-M Hornets, a team who is also 5-and-0 on the season.
Henninger, meanwhile, drops to 1-and-4 on the season, but have lost to teams who have a combined record of 14-and-1 on the season so far.
