Two Section III girls soccer teams were looking to punch their ticket to the state quarterfinals on Tuesday night at West Genesee High School, and one of those teams is moving on.
Marcellus was able to blank Section II Chatham from the Albany area 2-0, sparked by Kathryn Busa's opening goal set up by Jessie Nye. Marcellus advances to play the winner of the Section VII versus Section X Class B regional game between Canton and Peru.
Section III Class A champions Jamesville-DeWitt were not able to advance any further in the state playoffs, losing their regional game at West Genesee High School 2-0 to Burnt Hills.
In field hockey, Cazenovia is the only Section III team moving on in the state finals, beating Whitney Point 3-1.
