The high school basketball season kicked off this week, and the grand finale is the Holiday Tip Off in the Carrier Dome on Sunday. The event features four different high school teams battling at the Carrier Dome, the event is the first of its kind and should be a lot of fun for all fans.
The matchups feature CBA vs. Fowler, Skaneateles vs. Bishop Ludden, J-D vs. Elmira-Southside, and a big rivalry is renewed when C-NS meets Liverpool. No doubt the "Star-Wars" rivalry is one of the most heated between two of the biggest districts around, move it to the Carrier Dome and you have a completely different ball-game.
Those games are on Sunday, but local hoops fans were able to get their fix with some good games on Friday. LaFayette topped Fabius-Pompey, a team it partners with in football, 44-32. The Lancers were led by Senior Center Scott Phelps' 11 points and John Schneible had 10. Elsewhere in boys action Nottingham beat Oswego 59-57 in an overtime duel and Skaneateles outran Jordan-Elbridge 90-33. Kevin Rice had 22 for the Lakers in the victory. Baldwinsville was victorious in the Sherburne-Earlville Tournament beating Unatego from Section IV 64-54.
In girls hoops V-V-S beat Oneida in a close contest 50-45 and Clinton beat Camden by 29 points.
