SYRACUSE -- Syracuse University running back Delone Carter of Copley, Ohio will represent the Orange in the 86th annual East-West Shrine Game on January 22, 2011, at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida (4:00 p.m. EST, NFL Network). Carter, who is one of 32 collegiate seniors to accept an invitation to play in this year’s game, is the 69th former Syracuse player to participate in the game.

The Most Valuable Player of the 2010 New Era Pinstripe Bowl, Carter closed his Syracuse career as the third leading rusher in school history, with 3,104 yards, and tied for seventh on the career rushing touchdown record list, with 24. Carter’s career rushing total is just behind Joe Morris (4,299 yards) and Walter Reyes (3,424). His career mark of 73.9 yards per game ranks seventh in Syracuse history. In 2010, Carter gained 1,233 yards, which ranks third in Syracuse history, on 231 carries, which is eighth on the SU single-season record list.

Carter’s 198 rushing yards in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl is the third-best bowl game performance in Syracuse history and he became one of seven SU players to score multiple rushing touchdowns in a post-season contest.

The annual East-West Shrine Game, which is America’s longest-running college all-star football game, has featured former Syracuse players including Ernie Davis, John Mackey, Art Monk, current head coach Doug Marrone, Don McPherson and Marvin Harrison.

While the teams are divided by East and West, the players come together for the beneficiary of the event, Shriners Hospitals for Children®, an international pediatric specialty health care system of 22 hospitals.

Former NFL coaches Wade Phillips and Dan Reeves will coach opposite each other in the East-West Shrine Game.
