SYRACUSE -- Syracuse University head coach Doug Marrone has added Tim Daoust to his staff as an assistant coach. A native of Toledo, Ohio, Daoust was the defensive line coach at Central Michigan in 2010. His nine-year coaching career also includes stints at Northern Illinois University, Illinois State, Cincinnati and Western Michigan.
At Central Michigan, Daoust mentored All-Mid-American Conference Third Team selection Sean Murnane, who had 36 tackles, including nine for a loss of yards. He also served as the team's academic coordinator.
Prior to his stint at CMU, he was on the staff at Western Michigan for four seasons. He coached the Broncos' defensive line in 2006 and the defensive backs from 2007-09. In 2006, Daoust was the defensive line coach while current SU defensive coordinator Scott Shafer held the same role with the Broncos. That season, WMU led the nation in interceptions (24), sacks (46) and finished sixth in run defense, seventh in turnover margin, 11th in total defense and 14th in opponent third down conversions. The Bronco defense also broke a 33-year old a Mid-American Conference record by allowing just 76.1 rushing yards per game.
At Western Michigan, Daoust worked directly with All-Mid-American Conference defensive backs Louis Delmas and E.J. Biggers, both of whom were selected in the 2009 NFL Draft. Delmas also was a Phil Steele All-American in 2008. Londen Fryar also was a three-time All-MAC honoree, including two first-team designations, under Daoust. While at Western Michigan, the Broncos played in two Bowl games (2006 International Bowl and 2008 Texas Bowl) and had wins against BCS members Virginia, Iowa and Illinois.
Daoust began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northern Illinois during the 2002 and 2003 seasons. He coached cornerbacks at Illinois State in 2004 before serving as a defensive graduate assistant at Cincinnati in 2005.
A native of Toledo, Ohio, Daoust earned a bachelor's degree in history from Wittenberg University. As a defensive end on the Tigers football team (1998-2001), Daoust was a team captain (2000-01) and was a two-time Golden Helmet Award Winner. He earned first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors as a senior and second-team All-NCAC honors as a junior. He finished his career second all-time at Wittenberg with 27.5 career sacks and fourth in the record book for sacks in a season, amassing 10.5 during the 2000 campaign. Wittenberg football went 45-5 during Daoust's career, winning four NCAC championships and making four appearances in the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Tigers reached the quarterfinals in Daoust's junior and senior seasons.
