Orange Assistant Coach Mike Hopkins was already sorting through game tape on Sunday morning, looking forward to the next test, a Carrier Dome meeting with Georgetown on Wednesday. He was also looking back at a 72-49 win in Tampa Bay the day before, a win that saw much of SU's game plan implemented perfectly.
The 2-3 Zone defense that gave the Orange problems in that 4-game losing streak has been very affective over the past couple of games, back to back wins over the UConn Huskies and the Bulls. The key, according to Hopkins, was not allowing them penetrate.
"Connecticut and South Florida are both good three point shooting teams, but not great three point shooting teams, they have good penetrating type guards, and I thought we did a really good job of keeping guys in front."
The Orange were also able to out-rebound two very good rebounding teams, including one of the best in the Bulls. In fact, SU had already out-rebounded the Bulls by 12 by the time halftime had reached on Saturday.
"When are defense is good and we're rebounding the ball, you'll see we get a lot more transition baskets, those are great things for us offensively, and it gets the crowd involved."
