Poll Question: What's the 2nd best SU Game?
SYRACUSE -- As the Syracuse Orange basketball team prepares for perhaps their biggest game of the season on Monday night, Gerry McNamara was reflecting back on THE biggest SU game of all time.
CNY Central sports director John Evenson caught up with G-Mac at the Melo Center before practice, and the two took some time to watch a portion of that 2003 National Championship Game. CBS's Greg Gumble referred to McNamara as "an absolute assassin" during the halftime show in the broadcast, prompting Gerry to say "if they're referring to basketball it's definitely a good thing".
Watching the game reminded Gerry why he decided to return to the Orange as an assistant coach.
"I want to try and win another one," says McNamara. "You know, this was one of the best experiences of my life. I want to be part of hopefully another one when I see guys who have a similar experience to what I was very, very fortunate to go through. To see a group of 20 to 22 year old guys to go through that experience and hopefully win another one would be something else."
