SYRACUSE -- Ashley Cianfriglia made a difficult decision before her senior year in high school. After attending Bishop Ludden High School, Cianfriglia transferred to rival Westhill. And her new teammates couldn't be happier about it.
"I don't know where we'd be without her," freshman Anna Ross says. "She takes over the game. When she's on, everyone's on. It's just fun to play with her."
Ashley is leading the team in scoring, averaging over 21 points a game.
Cianfriglia is also a team captain. She says it wasn't easy coming to a new team and being a leader right away.
"It was hard because I didn't want to act like I took over the team coming in here and stuff like that, but I think they wanted me to push them, make them better," Cianfriglia says.
With Ashley at the point guard, the Warriors have found themselves in the second round of the sectional playoffs.
Her coach says Cianfriglia has been crucial to the team's success.
"We've come along nicely under her leadership, so I would say she's definitely the jump start for our team and makes it happen," Sue Ludwig says.
Ashley will continue her basketball career next year at Robert Wesleyan College in Rochester.
Congratulations to Ashley Cianfriglia, this week's Bryant and Stratton CNY Central Athlete!
