This week's Bryant and Stratton CNY Central Athlete has taken her team to new heights this year.
CAZENOVIA -- Ellen Burr and the Cazenovia Lakers were Section III champs two years ago but lost in the regional final.
Burr, a senior forward, was detirmined to bring her Lakers back for a chance at redemption this year. That's exactly what she got on Saturday.
She scored 19 points in the Lakers' thrilling overtime victory over Oneonta to take the "B" regional final.
"This is what we've wanted since sixth grade playing on our little Cazenovia travel team," Burr says. "We've been working for our senior year to get as far as possible and now we're at the final four, it's like our dream come true."
Burr is the emotional leader of the Lakers. She's one of four team captains and is a relentless worker.
"From start to finish she's the more bubbly emotional leader in the locker room, at practice," head coach Steve Miles says.
Burr will attend Boston College to study communications next year. She says if she gets bored, she might try out for the basketball team.
Congratulations to Ellen Burr, this week's Bryant and Stratton CNY Central Athlete.
