Doug Marrone (SU Athletics)
SU Head Football Coach Doug Marrone, as promised, gave the media a look at how he views the current state of the Orange, on the heels of Spring Pratice. Marrone told reporters he was pleased with the progress of the team, and the progress the coaching staff has made. He said the entire team has grown from season to season, and even from the end of the season through spring practice. Marrone warned, though, there's a long way to go.
When asked about competition at positions, Marrone said nothing is set in stone. He said injuries factor into a fluid depth chart, he wonders what a guy like Sean Hickey could do to the competition on the offensive line if not for his injury. Marrone also said there are some very talented incoming freshman bound to make an impact on the depth chart in all positions.
He mentioned all backup quarterbacks are battling with each other; John Kinder, Jonny Miller, and said that Charley Loeb had a great spring.
Mario Tull has been switched from a linebacker to a running back. Marrone says this move gives Tull the best chance to see the field and help out the Orange.
