WEEDSPORT, N.Y. - May 19, 2011 -The Big-Block Modified Super DIRTcar Series kicks off its 2011 season at the Third Annual DIRTcar All-Star Weekend on May 29 at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge, N.Y. An action-packed night begins a long battle throughout the Northeast for the series crown. Will Matt Sheppard defend his title? Can Brett Hearn capture his 800th victory and his eighth championship? Will Jimmy Phelps climb to the top of the podium? These are only a few of the questions to be answered when the nation's most prestigious Big-Block Modified tour takes the green flag on May 29.
Among the impressive collection of racers on hand for the 60-lap season-opener will be all-time DIRTcar Big-Block race winner Alan Johnson, five-time DIRTcar Northeast Driver of the Year Danny Johnson, open-wheel veterans Dale Planck, Justin Haers and Ryan Phelps, who won the inaugural All-Star Weekend event in 2009.
"Due to weather we have only been able to get on the track and race twice at our weekly track so we are really looking forward to the season opener during All-Star Weekend," said Haers, of Phelps, N.Y. "Having the opener on All-Star Weekend is comparable to the Daytona 500, we are starting the season off with a high-profile event, which is at Rolling Wheels and we always love running at 'The Fast Track'."
In addition to the Big-Block Modified events - including the first Mr. DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Safety-Kleen Shootout - the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds will be competing with winner qualifying for Super DIRT Week XL. A DIRTcar Pro Stock/Stock Car Challenge also will be part of the huge racing card.
Fans are encouraged to get their reserved seats early by going to www.DIRTcar.com/tickets. Reserved seats are available for $28, while adult general admission seats are $25 for adults, $10 for students (ages 10-17) and FREE for children 9 and under. For a limited time only an advance ticket purchase will receive a FREE pit pass while supplies last.
A limited number of reserved camping permits and parking passes are available for $25, while general camping and parking on the Rolling Wheels Raceway grounds are FREE.
