SU Head Lacrosse Coach John Desko described the emotions after Sunday's quarter final loss as a grieving process, something the SU seniors were probably still going through back on campus on Monday. But despite a painful overtime goal from Maryland's Grant Catalino and a 6-5 quarterfinal loss to the Terps, this is a senior class that'll forever be recognized as one of the most successful in su lacrosse history. Not only has the senior class won two national championships, but they compiled a 60-8 overall record, the best for any 4-year period in su lacrosse history.
"To look back on the moments we have cherished, reflected Senior Goalie John Galloway, "the big games that we have won, the friendships that we have made with everybody on the team not just the senior class, its been a pretty unbelievable ride. And to be part of the Syracuse program is something that I'll never forget. It is something that will make me better as a person going down the road. I am never going to forget these memories. It's definitely bitter sweet right now, (but) I think many years from now we will be able to look back and enjoy the time we had here."
We're kind of grieving here as of right now together, said Head Coach John Desko after the game, "and as we talked about it in the locker room. It's like a loss for us and we are going to have to deal with it, and as time goes on we are going to be able to look back at all the good memories, all the one goal games that we did win."
And while Maryland is the team moving on to the Final Four in Baltimore this weekend, even the guy who scored the game winner is in awe that his Terps were able to knock off a team as talented and experienced as Syracuse.
"It was unbelieveable," recalls Grant Catalino, "like I said before I grew up watching Syracuse and you know the great players that played there, like the Powells. They were kinda of my idols growing up to think that I could be in a position to score the game winning goal against a team like that you know I'm just speechless".
