They don't get much better than the Section III Class A Lacrosse Championship game we saw on Saturday night.

West Genesee clawed back from a first half deficit to take a late lead on Liverpool, before the Warriors knotted things back up with under two minutes to play. It would take three overtimes to solve, but in the end, it was West Genesee winning its 10th straight Section III Championship, thanks to a Connor Khammar rocket of a goal in the 3rd overtime.  With the win, for the third year in a row, West Genesee will meet Ithaca in the State Quarterfinal game. That contest will be played Wednesday at Corning Memorial Stadium. Ithaca has defeated the 'Cats the past two seasons in that very round.

In Class B, Jamesville-Dewitt continued its dominance, downing Carthage 23-7. The Red Rams are undefeated and looking for yet another New York State Championship. J-D is also Corning bound (near Elmira) as they meet Vestal for the right to advance to the State Semifinal game in Potsdam against the Section X champion.

Class C saw its third different champion in as many seasons as Cazenovia controlled the entire contest for a 12-6 victory over the defending champions from Cazenovia. The Lakers will play in the nightcap game against Chenango Forks down in Corning at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Baseball championships won't be decided until Monday at Alliance Bank Stadium, but already one defending champ is surprisingly already out. The back-to-back State Champions from Westhill were upset by Marcellus 3-0 on Saturday, ending the Warriors dominance of Class B. Tim Schneider tossed a complete-game shutout, only allowing three hits for the Mustangs.

In Class AA, a Wednesday classic championship is all set and ready to go as C-NS battles Liverpool at Alliance Bank Stadium.

Softball may have only been in the quarterfinals on Saturday, but that didn't stop an incredible game from being played at Westhill. Coach Gary Griffo's bunch battled with South Jefferson to a scoreless tie through 9 innings. Westhill pitcher Toni Secreti kept the Warriors alive and in the 10th inning, Mackenzie Davis drove home the game winning run for a 1-0 final.
