CORTLAND -- It's State semifinal Friday for girls lacrosse in New York State. All the games including tomorrow's finals are being played on the campus of SUNY Cortland.
The action started at 9:30 a.m. when Class B Section III champ Oswego squared off with Brighton from the Rochester area. The Barons raced to an early 9-1 lead over Oswego but the Bucs battled back. They would cut the deficit to 5 goals before bowing out 15-9. Kaitlyn Armstrong led the way for the Bucs with a hat trick. Congrats to Oswego, on making it to the NY Final Four!
As the day shifted to the afternoon, things began to look up for Section III. CBA jumped out to leads of 3-0 and 5-1 over Marcus Whitman HS from Section V and never looked back en route to a 13-9 victory. The win marks the first time CBA girls lacrosse has made it to the State Championship game and the Brothers meet Mount Sinai on the "Red Field" at SUNY Cortland for the State Championship. That game is noon on Saturday.
The semifinal finale featured perennial power West Genesee taking on Pittsford from Section V, concluding a day of CNY vs. Rochester. The Wildcats fought hard, trailing by just two at halftime. In the end though, Katey Hart's 5 goals weren't enough, as West Genny fell 9-7.
