NEW YORK (AP) -- Ivan Nova is the odd man out in the New York Yankees' crowded rotation.

Despite an 8-4 record, Nova was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday to open a spot for Phil Hughes, who is just about ready to come off the disabled list.

New York recalled right-hander Lance Pendleton before the Subway Series finale Sunday against the Mets, giving the staff another fresh arm in the bullpen.

It appears Hughes will take Nova's turn in the rotation Wednesday night in Cleveland. An 18-game winner last season, Hughes has been sidelined since April 15 with right shoulder inflammation.
