The MLB pride of Baldwinsville Jason Grilli missed all of the 2010 season after suffering through a torn quad tendon and ruptured ligaments in his right kneecap. It's a topic he doesn't enjoy talking about all that much, mostly because it's old news to him.
"I'm so tired of talking about it because I'm back," explained Grilli heading into the Triple A All-Star break, "my numbers hopefully speak for themselves. I'm just feeling good and very confident."
The relief pitcher has looked great for Lehigh Valley so far this season, the triple A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. He's 4-1 at the All-Star break for the Iron Pigs with a 2.21 ERA, says he thinks he's earned himself another shot at the big leagues.
"Obviously it's not my end goal to stay in Triple A. I think I've proven that I am healthy, and warrant a call up here in the very near future."
Nothing would make his father Steve Grilli more proud. Jason's father spent six seasons playing professional baseball with the Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays. The Grillis are getting a rare chance to catch up smack in the middle of the baseball season since Jason's Iron Pigs wrapped up the first half right here in Syracuse with a series against the Chiefs.
"This worked out great with me and my family, (and) just taking some time to recover and relax. I'm gonna enjoy staying in the New York area with my family. Definitely well deserved, (i'll) just get refreshed and hopefully when I return they'll tap me on the shoulder and tell me I'm going somewhere else too."
