Even the West Genesee Wildcat's admit they were still more like kittens last season, but now they're ready to pounce.
"We were young last year, the whole team was young," says senior Sean Howard, "We just have to work hard (as a team) to be successful. We've been working hard since doubles."
And the core of that planned success will be the offensive line, clearly the most experienced unit of the team, and clearly the vessel to success in Section III.
"Out of five guys, all five had some starting time last year," explains Head Coach Joe Corley, "plus two of our backups were starters last year, so (we have) an experienced o-line, and we have a good mix of size. The not so big guys are quick and strong and very aggressive kids. So I think out line is our strength, and overall our offense I think is pretty talented so we should be able to score some points."
"Without the offensive line we can't do anything in the game," says senior lineman Adam Wiereinski, "so with an offensive line, with a good solid offensive line an experienced offensive line we can do a lot on offense and defense."
And having all that experience in front of him is helping senior quarterback Matt Naton enter the season with lots of confidence, and plans to turn West Genesee into more than just a school known for their lacrosse.
"Last year was tough because everybody was new coming in," recalls Naton, "but this year everybody knows what they're doing, we're so much farther ahead from last year so it's pretty nice."
The Wildcats will officially open the season by hosting Oswego on September 2.
