It was a special occasion at McNamara's in Camillus as the restaurant/pub played host to the West Genesee/Town of Camillus Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
The West Genesee Girls Lacrosse Team that won a New York State Championship in 2001 was the team forever enshrined in the Hall of Fame, Jim Ouderkirk, George Mezey, Anne Schmutzler and SUNY Cortland Men's Lacrosse Coach Steve Beville were among the inductees.
Some household names also were inducted.
Syracuse University Men's Lacrosse Coach John Desko was inducted along with Kevin Donahue, whom Desko has been a friend, teammate, and now co-worker with for over 40 years.
The duo has combined to be a part of all but one of the Orange's 11 National Championships. They played together, of course, at West Genesee High School in the mid 1970's and went on to play for Syracuse University, and obviously both coach there.
It's something that's really come full circle, two lives entwined just like a lacrosse stick's netting, now they're in the Hall of Fame together. West Genesee Boys Lacrosse Coach Mike Messere illustrated it best when he said "Now I'm coaching their kids, both the Desko's and the Donahue's, maybe I'll coach their kids' children too".
