SYRACUSE -- A popular women's athletic event will return to Syracuse for another three years.
Today, Iron Girl announced the renewal of its three-year event agreement with the Syracuse Convention and Visitor's Bureau (SCVB) and Onondaga County Parks to host the annual Athleta Iron Girl Syracuse Women's Triathlon.
"For the last three years, the Iron Girl Syracuse Triathlon has been inspirational to our residents and visitors alike," said SCVB President David Holder. "We are thrilled to continue this relationship and its spirit of vitality, perseverance and caring competition."
The event will be held on August 5, 2012 for the next three years at Oneida Shores Park.
"I am delighted that Iron Girl will stay in our area for the next three years and hope they will continue here for many more years to come," said County Executive Joanie Mahoney. "We have been extremely pleased with the growth in participants each year and are happy that the improvements we have made at Oneida Shores accommodates more women for the Iron Girl Triathlon."
The even has gotten bigger and bigger since it began in Syracuse in 2009. In its first year, it had more than 400 finishers, and this year it attracted more than 1,300 participants. The 2011 event sold out in just over a week.
"The Syracuse community has offered amazing support for the event," said Judy Molnar, Vice President of Iron Girl. "It has been exciting to see so many women take on the challenge of their first triathlon and succeed."
Registration will open on November 1. Click here for more information.
