NEW YORK CITY (AP) -- Right-hander Phil Hughes and the New York Yankees agreed Monday to a $3.2 million, one-year contract, a raise of $500,000 that followed an injury filled season.

Hughes can make an additional $225,000 in performance bonuses under the deal: $50,000 for 20 starts, and $25,000 each for 23, 26, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33 starts. The deal is not guaranteed.

A 25-year-old right-hander, Hughes was 5-5 with a 5.79 ERA in 14 starts and three relief appearances last season, down from an 18-8 record the previous year. He was sidelined from April 15 to July 6 because of an inflamed right shoulder, then was bothered by a herniated disk in his back in September.

Hughes is among seven starters the Yankees have a month before spring training, joined by ace CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova, Freddy Garcia, A.J. Burnett and new acquisitions Michael Pineda and Hiroki Kuroda.

Five Yankees remain in arbitration: pitchers David Robertson, Joba Chamberlain and Boone Logan, catcher Russell Martin and outfielder Brett Gardner.
