The Syracuse Orange may be # 1 in the country on the basketball court, but Jim Boeheim is neck and neck with Kentucky's John Calipari in another poll as well. Both are participants in the "Infiniti Coaches Charity Challenge," both fighting for the right to donate $100,000 to the foundation of his choosing, which in Boeheim's care would be The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation. You can vote for your coach or charity of choice by clicking here.
All of the coaches involved in the challenge automatically get $5,000 toward their charity of choice, but the coach with the most votes at the end of the challenge will get $100,000 towards their cause. As of Friday afternoon Calipari was leading the East region with 20 percent of the votes, while Boeheim was close behind with 19 percent of the east region votes.
Overall the challenge is a 48 coach bracket with a great variety of charities represented, four brackets of 12 coaches paired against each other for the first 6 weeks, with winners from each group moving onto the final four.
The SU Athletics website describes The Jim and Juli Boeheim Foundation as a charity that "strives to enrich the lives of kids in need within the Central New York Community, as well as provide support for the eliminating cancer through research and advocacy. Now in its third year, this foundation continues its fight against cancer by raising money and awareness."
